The T(r)opic of Capricorn (Chips) 005

Gosh ! This Project really is FIGHTING me every step of the way, to the point where I haven’t had the opportunity to log the slog here.
I shall have to fill in some of the gaps (I’ve been gathering screenshots) later….or perhaps make a film at the end (Will there BE one ?) showing everything that DIDN’T work !
To be brief, I lost time trying to texture, with readable words, the sails of a Galleon from Sketch Up….. only to find that this was enormously tricky as Curved surfaces are “a special case” and have to be split into their flat plane constituents then textured in a mix and matchy stretchy under the desky (bend your MIND as well as the image) way. I DID make some progress but had to bail when I found that the model couldn’t be imported into 3DXchange anyhow.
Should have checked (and not checkered) the Schooner sooner !
Too big, too much detail.
Too bad. I had thought to use the interior as the dance locale - NOW the boats may become boots.
Hmm. So I switched to a yacht….then lots of yachts (lachts of yots ?) and textured some wordy flags, (not without getting VERY distracted by the more attractive, if well-used possibilities of kaleidoscope effects) beating myself up about how the sizes and animations would be better if there was more variety.
I settled on six vessels as I thought my animation software could handle up to eight. It isn’t happy. So I’ve been doing more workarounds and compromises and faffing. <<Crash Crash Crash>> says iClone (except it doesn’t actually say anything - it just vanishes) - and I haven’t even brought the music file in yet.
I’d feel SO much better if I could just get the first five seconds NAILED.
Had to re-do the messy music last week. It has dual voices at the moment - and NO characters.
